b---holes...Everybody has one and most of them stink. That is what I wanted to tell a lady at Wal-Mart yesterday. The twins and I were doing our grocery shopping when a lady noticed that T and E had pacifiers in their mouths. It's no secret...our babies are attached to their pacifiers. They LOVE them. I challenge anyone to get them to sleep without one. The lady was quick to let me know that she took the pacifier away from her children once they turned one ---"but your twins can't be one yet. They are so small." I answered, "They are small for their age, but they were preemies." Once she found out my babies were one she began her lecture of the whens, whys, and hows of getting rid of the pacifier. When I say lecture I am not using the term loosely. This stranger was giving me "a talking to" about how I really needed to take the pacifiers away. I was very polite and said several times, "I am just not ready to take on that challenge."
Why do strangers feel the need to give their opinions concerning children and how to raise them?

Just for fun, I'll offer an opinion too!
I think children grow up too fast all on their own, without us helping them along by taking away their comfort-tools before they're ready to give them up. They do things on their own sweet time, just like eating solid food and potty training. As soon as they're ready, they'll figure out how to comfort themselves without pacifiers. When it comes to wearing sassy clothing or seeing rated R movies, we sure don't want them growing up too fast. Enjoy your little ones.
So much for what I think! I sure do love you and your children. I think you are a wonderful mom and they are dang lucky to have you and David as parents!
Thanks Auntie! I like your opinion...it doesn't stink :)
T and E ate baked fish for lunch today. They loved it! Yay!
We love you too!
Get ready! Just think of all the positive comments you get when someone offers an "opinion" -
Like this one from me:
Your babies are sooooo cute! You are a wonderful mama!
My favorite nearly 3 year old uses a pacifier and wears diapers. He's quite a normal kid! (Above, IMO!) We talk to him about how big kids don't use diapers, but I don't think anyone's pushing him to potty train. I know his mom has been talking about weaning him off his binky for over a year, but it doesn't look like there's any action, just talk. :)
I'd think taking a pacifier away would just make your children switch to using their thumbs. I don't see how that is any better or worse. I remember my parents trying different strategies to get me to stop sucking my thumb. I was probably kindergarten-aged. See? You don't need to be concerned for quite awhile.
I'll third the wonderful mom comment. I bet you're such a wonderful mom, you don't offer up parenting advice to complete strangers in the grocery store!
