I'm Dry!!!!

Potty training, sigh.......It seems we have been potty training forever. Yesterday was a milestone for Thomas. He stayed dry ALL DAY LONG!! He wore "big boy underwear" while at home and a pull-up while out. He rarely tells us he has to potty and still needs lots of reminding, but we are making progress!

I would have thought Elizabeth was going to be potty trained first, but Thomas may surprise us. It really isn't a competition between them. One could care less if the other goes to the potty. David and I don't care who masters the potty first....we just want it to happen!!

Mariah, Elizabeth has been interested in the potty off and on since November ( 2 years 4 months). Thomas has shown no interest until the past month. The best advice I got was to start off by rewarding for a dry diaper....to focus more on the diaper being dry than the pee pee in the potty. My pediatrician told me to set the kitchen timer and take the kids to the potty whenever it goes off. We are still a long way from being potty trained but are trying:)

how often do you set the timer?

Hey Ashley! That's fabulous about Thomas! Welcome to the hell that is potty training!!! Allison is Offically day and night potty trained as of New Years (she was 3 yrs & 8 months). She probably could have gone with out the night time pullup a couple of months earlier, but with the holidays and travel we decided to err on the side of caution! She started potty training at 2yr/2mo. She could get her jammies off and go by herself in the morning and only wore pullups for nap and at night. She was great for about 6 monthes, and then the holidays, Doug's bithday came and the fruit snacks we had been giving her had tapered off (I don't reccomend the food for pee method anymore). She started going in her seat at the table everynight even if we made her go potty before dinner. She regressed big time. So we went back to pull ups with the holiday travels and I gave her a break. Then in spring we tried again and she was soooo pigheaded! Eric and his parents tried with M&M's against my wishes and that didn't help either. Then last Aug. at a park she made friends with a little boy about a year older and he asked his mom to go potty-an hour later Allison asked me to go!!!! She decied to try again. Then in Oct. or Nov. we were at a playgroup over by Eric's office. She had an accidentin her panties and instead of changing and playing I told her we had to leave and couldn't go by Eric's office since we didn't have pants for her ( which was a punishment for me too, playgroup is a life line). After that she started staying dry through nap time and then at night and was going all on her own. One thing I read (and I have read a lot about it) never ask "do you have to go?" simply state "potty time" and take them. That helped me the most. For every experienced person I have spoken to, the kids will do it when they want to and to just be patient. Doug has been through all of this mess and is all about going on the potty before bed now. I wish you only the best! I'm also a little jelous that you get to do it in one fell swoop with both of them instead of streched out like us. It's an exciting time, relax and have fun. I'm not a fan of public restrooms, some are so dirty, and now that Allison is potty trained, we spend more time in them than I would like! Sorry the sleeping together didn't work out like you hoped!
