7 Months Old!

The twins are seven months old as of yesterday. I can't believe how fast the time has gone by, how much they have grown, and how much they have changed. Their little faces have changed, their personalities are starting to show, the list goes on. They have grown out of their first pair of blue jeans, and I ordered them a new pair yesterday. They have pretty much outgrown their 3-6 months clothes and are now in 6-12 and/or 9 months sizes. All of the sudden they need new clothes. I haven't actually shopped for baby clothes at all and am looking forward to it. Over the weekend we bought them jumpers ( the ones that hang from the door facing), and they seem to like them. They don't actually jump yet, but they do turn around in circles. I feel great that they have somewhere to be besides the floor or swing. I think they are almost ready to move from their bouncey seats to their booster seats for feeding. We decided not buy highchairs and bought the booster seats instead. If they don't work out we can always go buy some highchairs.

Thomas had an appointment at the pediatrician's office today. We think his ringworm is back. Unfortunately, he is too young for the oral meds and the cream has to be used at least six weeks. My sister who is a nurse practitioner told me she always advises her patients to use the cream for 2 to 4 weeks longer than the six weeks -- especially if the ringworm is in the hair. Of course, that is where Thomas' is. Poor thing! He was just starting to get his hair back.

I have decided to cut back on the amount of baby food the twins are getting because they have really started spitting up worse in spite of the meds thay take for reflux. They spit up worse in the evening it seems. They have also started taking less breast milk even though they only get about 3 tablespoons of baby food twice a day. Breast milk is best and is where they should be getting most of their nutrition. The pediatrician said it would be fine to discontinue baby food, but it might mean feeding more frequently including during the middle of the night. As much as I have enjoyed T and E sleeping through the night I would rather feed them more frequently than have them spitting up so much. I may drop down to one baby food feeding per day and see how that goes before discontinuing the food all together. I don't know....it is all one big experiment, right? Any advice on nursing and baby food from those who have been there is welcome!

You are so much smarter and more knowledgeable than I was! I hesitate to give advice, because times change and there are always trends to this sort of thing.

I didn't really start Eric on food until he was the age the twins are now. He was sitting up by then. Even then, he did cereal alone for ages. Then fruits. We didn't do vegetables for a long, long time! Keep in mind this was over 20 years ago. You and your doctor know what's best for your sweet babies.

Also, who knows what my memory has done to me, but I remember very small amounts. 1-3 tablespoons of things. That boy sure did love to nurse!

Ashley,
Happy early Birthday. I hope you have a great one. Sounds like things are going pretty well for you. I can not believe the twins are 7 months. Time goes by so fast. I don't have much advice in regards to the food. Sorry. The Smart household has been ill lately. Hayden was sick about three weeks ago. He probably had the flu. Then Logan and Claire were sick at the same time. Claire had an ear infection and RSV. Logan tested negative for the flu but they thought he probably had RSV, too. They were on antibiotics and breathing treatments. Mom took Claire back a few days later for a follow-up and she was not better. They changed the meds. A new medicine was added to the breathing treatments which required her to wear a mask. The medicine could not get in her eyes. This took two of us to give to her. It was awful. Jason then came down with the flu. The kids and I moved to Mimi and Papa's house for a few days. I could not take the kids getting sick again or getting worse. Everyone is doing pretty good now. I am so ready for spring. I love the pictures. You got some great family pictures back in Arkansas.

Give the twins a hug and kiss for me.

Cathy,
Wow! How in the world did you handle three sick kids? I'm assuming you stayed at home with them. Thanks goodness your mom is so close. I'm glad to hear everyone is feeling better. Take care!

Love and miss you,
ashley

Hey Auntie!
Your advice is always welcome, and I doubt I am smarter or more knowledgeable. I think maybe I have read too much and stressed myself out over what "the books say." I have decided to just give the twins cereal for now and to only give it once a day. I give them 5 T (dry) to share so I figure they get about 2.5 T each. I served it much thicker this morning as the doctor said reflux babies typically tolerate thicker consistencies better. We will see what happens. I only fed them cereal once yesterday, and they nursed so much better which made me feel better.

Come visit soon!

Love and miss you,
ashley

Ashley, are any of the clothes in the plastic bins of use? I wish I were there to help you sort through them some more.

Amy, I honestly have not had time to look through them in awhile. Maybe I will try this weekend. I wish you were here too. We could laugh instead of looking through clothes :)

Reading about you feeding your two reminds me of the days of feeding mine in highchairs and boosters and seeing food on the wall and chairs and US and everywhere!!!!! Lots of memories!!!!! Get YOUR bibs ready!
Doctors change their minds on what foods to introduce when so I went with what they said. One of mine was actually "starving" so introducing food made a difference. The only thing that didn't work for me was putting cereal in the bottle as was suggested way back then. One things for sure.....the babies will let you know when they're not satisfied!!!!
Miss ya,
Dawn

Hey Dawn!
It is good to hear from you. I do need bibs for me and David. The twins seem to be doing good so far on one feeding of oatmeal a day and breastmilk the rest. I think I will do this for awhile and then try to slowly add other foods.

Take care!

Thanks Amanda! I read too much, don't I?

Hello Ashley ~ Read too much when it comes to parenting? Absolutely not! Think about how much we read and study for our college degree ~ Raising your children is much more important than any paid career job, and people don't read and study for this 'job' enough! We just need to pray for discernment and wisdom as we read! You are doing a great 'job' with your two little sweet peas! Keep the pictures coming ~ too cute!
Miss you
